I'm on my second Microsoft 5000 in almost 2 years. I got the first one in October of 2008 and I made it last a little over a year, since, as Bruce discovered, it likes to cut out. OFTEN. I figured it was me, my computer, or just a bad mouse. Having pitched the packaging, I didn't bother to contact the company, knowing they tend to respond unsatisfactorily if at all. I did get a new one, however. My second 5000 is 6 months old and it, too, frequently cuts out. I have to uninstall and reinstall it. Talk about aggravating. I may have to try some other brand next time.

I have had a Microsoft 5000 mouse for at least 6 months now, and I've never had a problem with it whatsoever. I thoroughly enjoy using it especially not having to plug in a USB adapter considering I have accidentally dropped a laptop and busted one before. I also like the scrolling function and recently learned about the use of the back button. The battery life is pretty good, I rarely change it, I'd say about once every 2 months and I usually forget to turn it off. I recommend this mouse for anyone and especially for laptop users.

I bought this mouse when I bought my Dell Studio laptop last year( Feb. 14 2009) and have had nothing but trouble from the 3rd month on. I called microsft tech support and they determined the mouse was bad and sent me a new 5000 mouse. I have had this supposedly new 5000 mouse for 2 months and it started losing connectivity with my computer again. This happens 3 or 4 times a day. I use brand new alkaline batteries and they last about 1 week and that is using the computer about 4 hours each day. I am going to try a different mouse that is not microsoft and see how that works. Don't buy this one unless you enjoy getting locked out all the time and have to use the computer touchpad.
