Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000 The model 5000 is Microsoft’s most portable wireless notebook mouse that connects directly to a bluetooth PC without a transceiver, freeing up USB ports for other devices. Microsoft calls it a “high definition” laser mouse which they say makes it more precise and responsive, and that it delivers smoother tracking. The 5000 has an ambidextrous design which means you can use it with either your left or right hand and it is comfortable both ways. It also has a bit of an ergonomic design so it will help reduce discomfort during long hours of work and will help prevent some serious long-term conditions. It has four buttons including a Back button and the scroll wheel. You can use the Back button to easily navigate between folders and web pages, or you can press the scroll wheel to enable auto-scroll. Auto-scroll saves time and effort since you can navigate documents and websites without using the on-screen scroll bar. This mouse also claims a 3+ month battery life which can be achieved by turning the device off when not in use. When it finally does get close to running out of power it has a red LED indicator light that illuminates to alert you when the battery is almost dead. This mouse is a mix of light gray, dark gray and black in color and the MSRP is $49.99.

I bought this mouse when I bought my Dell Studio laptop last year( Feb. 14 2009) and have had nothing but trouble from the 3rd month on. I called microsft tech support and they determined the mouse was bad and sent me a new 5000 mouse. I have had this supposedly new 5000 mouse for 2 months and it started losing connectivity with my computer again. This happens 3 or 4 times a day. I use brand new alkaline batteries and they last about 1 week and that is using the computer about 4 hours each day. I am going to try a different mouse that is not microsoft and see how that works. Don’t buy this one unless you enjoy getting locked out all the time and have to use the computer touchpad.

Just bought one of these 5000 series to find that I can’t use it and my wireless in house modem / internet connection at the same time as they are both using the same wireless connection on my BenQ laptop.

I have had a Microsoft 5000 mouse for at least 6 months now, and I’ve never had a problem with it whatsoever. I thoroughly enjoy using it especially not having to plug in a USB adapter considering I have accidentally dropped a laptop and busted one before. I also like the scrolling function and recently learned about the use of the back button. The battery life is pretty good, I rarely change it, I’d say about once every 2 months and I usually forget to turn it off. I recommend this mouse for anyone and especially for laptop users.

I’m on my second Microsoft 5000 in almost 2 years. I got the first one in October of 2008 and I made it last a little over a year, since, as Bruce discovered, it likes to cut out. OFTEN. I figured it was me, my computer, or just a bad mouse. Having pitched the packaging, I didn’t bother to contact the company, knowing they tend to respond unsatisfactorily if at all. I did get a new one, however. My second 5000 is 6 months old and it, too, frequently cuts out. I have to uninstall and reinstall it. Talk about aggravating. I may have to try some other brand next time.

How do I install and uninstall the MS Bluetooth mouse 5000? Mine shows dead battery light after installing new batteries (3 times).

Worked fine for a while, now it won’t connect to my computer. “bluetooth device not found” – funny, you found it yesterday. I am going with another brand.

I bought mine about 3 and half years ago and have never had any problems with it. Batteries last about 6 to 8 weeks. It’s a great little mouse.

Bought this mouse awhile ago, have tried using it on my Dell Laptop (brand new, windows xp) as well as my Toshiba (Windows 7) and the majority of the time if its seen, it loses connection. Trying to reconnect usually doesn’t work. Once and awhile it will suddenly be detected and work but if I leave the computer on, but not in use for a period of time and comeback and try and use mouse and will stop working again. Moving on to a different brand, and would NOT recommend this mouse. My other bluetooth devices are easily seen and work on these laptops. They can even be seen when the device is in another room, and this mouse is right next to the computer and cant be found!

I have a Dell laptop with built in bluetooth. This mouse works great and I have never had a problem.

I have bought a couple of bt mice and the MS5000 is my favorite. I have a macbook pro and use Parallels with XP to run AutoCad2007 all day long. The mouse is in my hands 5 hours a day. Scroll the wheel for zoom and hold to pan in autocad is a 100% must and this mouse is the only one, I have found, that will do this. Without this ability I could not run autocad on my mac. I had some trouble with setting the dialog box options exactly right so I purchased Steermouse ($20+-) which finally made it just right.
I have big hands and the size although I would prefer a bit bigger is very comfortable.
Between work and home I sometimes, once or twice a week, have to use the bt setup dialog box to find it but it always does within a minute. Response time is as good as a wired mouse.
Battery (2)AAA life is about a month, I seldom remember to turn it off.

I have purchased two of these for to use on my Sony Vaio with Windows 7. The first one lasted 2 months – the second one just a month and a half. It always lost connection – you have to uninstall and reinstall it over and over again, until it just won’t reconnect again. It is really too bad, because when it worked I was very happy with it.

Yeah I just got one of these from office depot yesterday because it was the only bluetooth they had there (yeah office depot sucks). Anyway I got it working for about 10 minutes then it stopped. Reading these reviews I am kicking myself in the ass. My internet connection went out at the same time. Huh I wonder why….If you purchased this mouse….TAKE IT BACK NOW, BEFORE IT IS TO LATE!

This mouse is nothing but problems! unfortunately, it did not work for me no matter what I tried. I went back to using USB mouse.

I been using this mouse for the past 2 years. It cut’s off like some comments but I think the problem is with the battery and not the BT, I simply turn it around, move the batteries with my fingers without take them out and I am back in business within 3 seconds, the mouse is great besides that anoying problem. I highly recommend this mouse. I am a software programmer.

    The mouse is crap!

  17. Tigger Thursday, October 6th, 2011 08:29 am GMT +00:00

Yes, I have to agree with all the negative comments. Problems range from complete loss of connectivity to partial loss, usually scroll wheel. USB wireless mice work fine. Dell Studio 1735 also has problems with HP Bluetooth printer which HP acknowledges has problems connecting. The 5000 worked fine for about a year, now drops out every day, usually after Resume. Have to Remove, then Add in Control Panel>Bluetooth Devices to get it to work – only advantage of 5000 is it saves one USB port and has some additional right button functions that aren’t on the Dell touchpad. Can’t agree with Armando, the battery thing is a red herring, it’s the mouse – Electronic Engineer
